EE Pre-Festival Blogger Event

A few weeks ago (prior to getting engaged, hence the delay in the post) I joined the UK Blog Awards for a pre-festival season meet-up in collaboration with EE.

EE are celebrating another year as the official technology and communications partner for Glastonbury Festival, with the event evening outlining the brand’s plans for the festival and forthcoming events.

Bathed in the lights of the fluorescent artwork, Lights of Soho was the ideal venue for technology giants EE to share their forthcoming plans. The cultural hub is lit with artworks from both local and international artists, such as God's Own Junkyard and guests at the event were mesmerised by the display, which was undoubtedly an Instagramers paradise.

Mat Sears, Director of Communications and Sponsorship for EE, as well as UK Blog Awards Technology Judge, kicked off the event by talking about EE’s achievements in becoming the UK’s biggest and fastest network, reaching 99% of the UK population. Last year the brand created a world first red carpet selfie-taking robot, who presented alongside Laura Whitmore at the BAFTA Awards. As well as providing a 4G connection for all festival goers at Glastonbury, regardless of their mobile network, they ensured all at Worthy Farm stayed connected.

It was great to chat to Jeff and Jules from EE about this year's Glastonbury Festival, including the selection of this year's headline act Katy Perry. EE had brought along some VR kits for attendees to try out with the team keen to learn about bloggers’ use of technology.

Following the Orange and T-Mobile merger to become EE, I was among one of the first to sign up to an EE contract and was awarded additional gigabytes just in time for my trip to New York in April 2013 *read here.* I had great coverage throughout my trip to upload pictures of the iconic NYC skyline.

It was interesting to gain insight from EE about their upcoming plans and the work they do with bloggers. Exciting plans are underway this year to hold intimate cinema events in more remote areas of the country, which is very appealing to me as a Film & TV graduate. As for their 4EE Action Cam, that would be amazing for Guns n Roses in June (bring it on!)

The drinks were flowing and the pizza was provided by Pizza Pilgrims, located nearby and somewhere I’d been meaning to try.

Events like these are a great way for bloggers to engage with brands in a social environment as well as interact with other bloggers. I have thoroughly enjoyed the events I have attended through the UK Blog Awards (Roast, Visit Holland #MeetTheDutchMasters). It was so lovely to meet K (ScoopMag) and we had fun snapping some of the neon artwork.

Sophie, who has the blog Popcorn & Glitter was familiar to me and I realised I had read a couple of her film reviews, therefore it was good to put a face to the blog and meet her and another blogger, Franny Mac. UK Blog Award Finalists Sophie Shohet and Charlie Friend were at the event and Sophie kindly gave me the complimentary UK Blog Awards ticket she found in her EE booklet - Yay!

Following the EE event, it was amazing to catch up with them all at the UK Blog Awards with Charlie kindly giving her spare ticket to my friend Phillippa, who has the fashion blog Phillippa Loves Design. This only emphasises the kindness of the blogging community and I hope to see these girlies at another event again soon.

Thanks so much to EE and the UK Blog Awards for hosting this fantastic event, I look forward to seeing the brand’s plans come to fruition and will definitely be popping into Lights of Soho again sometime soon.

Thanks for reading,

Jaz
