Craig David - Born To Re-do It

Last month I attended the UK Garage and R&B legend’s eagerly awaited return to London at the beautiful KOKO Camden.

Following the huge success of his Born To Do It album which sold in excess of 8 Million copies, the artist lived in the States for a number of years and it was great to be able to have witnessed one of his first gigs back to his roots in the UK.

Being a Garage Girl myself, Craig David has always been on my playlist and I couldn't wait to see his DJ/MC set in collaboration with TS5. “When The Bassline Drops” a track that Craig had recently released with Big Narstie was the first of the new material to be released, followed by “Who Am I” which was a collaboration between him and Katy B and both these great tracks  showcase the talent Craig David has in appealing to various music genres. Both Katy B and Big Narstie made appearances singing their respective tracks joining Craig on stage and it was incredible seeing them all perform at this pretty venue, which had only cost £20 for each ticket!

Endor and Preditah were supporting acts and both did a fantastic job of warming up the crowd getting everyone dancing prior to the main event. I love Endor’s track Wiggle and Preditah’s Selecta, which is a remix of Artful Dodger and Craig David's Re-Rewind track; having both these tracks on my playlist and getting the opportunity to see their sets live was an added bonus to this inexpensive gig.

KOKO Camden is a pretty venue to watch a gig and the tiered balcony areas are great if you've got short legs like me! The venue location is minutes from Camden tube station as well as great bars and restaurants such as The Blues Kitchen and Gilgamesh.

The track list for Craig David's set had some banging garage, hip hop, r&b and pop mixes intertwined and I particularly loved his mix of his own “Walking Away” with Dr Dre’s “Still Dre”.

The Bieber tracks really got the crowd going and if you'd been hiding under a rock for the past six months you could believe that they were Craig David's own tunes. The version of Bieber’s “Love Yourself” performed by Craig David on the night, in my opinion is even better than the original and you can only admire how Craig put his own spin on this tune spitting out lyrics faster than you could ask him for a reee-wind!!!

Craig David was indeed Born To Re-do It! If you too would like to see what other tour dates he has coming up over the year including his scheduled appearances at We Are FSTVL & V Fest, be sure to check out his website:
